Ketchikan Fishing Report September
2024
Welcome to our Ketchikan fishing report September update. September has officially arrived, and with it comes the exciting influx of fall Coho (Silver) salmon. These hard-fighting fish are moving into the area in greater numbers, providing incredible action for our guests. Marine fishing remains highly productive not just for Coho, but also for Pink salmon, Halibut, Lingcod, and various Rockfish species.
Coho Salmon Action Coho fishing has been particularly strong near Duke Island and the Cape. As the fall run progresses, nearshore waters are seeing a major improvement. Current hotspots for the month include Clover Pass, the backside of Gravina, and Camano Point. If you are looking for the “Silver Blitz,” now is the time to be on the water.
King Salmon Update Please note that for the remainder of this month, the retention of King Salmon is prohibited in all Southeast Alaska salt waters (August 26 through September 30, 2024). We are looking forward to the winter season reopening on October 1st.
Halibut and Groundfish Halibut fishing continues to stay strong as we head into the fall. We’ve been finding the best luck near Duke Island and Pt. Alava. For those targeting Lingcod, there are some real trophies being caught right now.
Resident Lingcod Limits: 1 per day / 2 in possession (no size limit).
Nonresident Lingcod Limits: 1 per day / 1 in possession (30-35 inches or 55+ inches).
Rockfish & Technical Gear Rockfish are available year-round, but remember that all sportfishing vessels are required to have a functional deep-water release device on board to ensure the health of these slow-growing species.
Whether you are targeting silvers in the salt or exploring the roadside streams like Herring Cove or Ketchikan Creek, September offers some of the best variety of the entire year.
Staying current on these limit changes ensures a smooth day on the water. Check our Ketchikan Alaska Fishing Charter for 2025 availability. We specialize in Cruise Ship Fishing and provide these regular Ketchikan Fishing Reports to keep our guests informed. Join us on The 4 C’s and let’s go fishing!
