King Salmon Update: A Few Around the Ketchikan Area

Fishing for King Salmon in the Ketchikan area has been yielding some promising results, though numbers are still on the lower side as we move through July. Dedicated anglers have reported catching a few sizable Kings, especially in the early mornings and late evenings when the fish are most active. Key hotspots include the deeper channels near the Tongass Narrows and around Clover Pass, where patience and persistence are paying off. Trolling with herring and hoochies has proven effective, with a slow and steady approach often yielding the best results. Additionally, some success has been found using flashers and cut plugs, which seem to attract the attention of the more elusive Kings. The fish that have been caught are in excellent condition, providing a thrilling challenge for those lucky enough to hook one. While King Salmon numbers are currently modest, the anticipation is building for larger schools to move into the area as the season progresses. Anglers are encouraged to stay persistent and keep exploring various depths and locations. Overall, the King Salmon fishing in Ketchikan is showing signs of improvement, with hopes high for an even better catch rate in the coming weeks.
