Winter Fishing Report – Ketchikan, Alaska
Our Ketchikan Alaska Winter Fishing season has gotten off to a solid start when the weather allows. We’ve seen some good action early in the winter King salmon season when the weather allows. There are still a few halibut around, along with plenty of great-tasting bottom fish such as rockfish and Pacific cod to keep things interesting.
That said, winter has definitely reminded us who’s in charge. We’ve been dealing with extended periods of heavy rain, strong winds, and even snowfall, with temperatures dropping down to 0° at times. These conditions can make it challenging to safely get out on the water and chase those elusive winter kings, but when we do get a break in the weather, the fishing has been well worth it.
Essential Ketchikan Alaska Winter Fishing Reminders
Lingcod season closed in November and will reopen May 16 – November 30
Halibut retention for sport fishing is closed for the month of January
King salmon fishing remains highly weather-dependent during the heart of winter
We’re keeping a close eye on the forecast and looking forward to the next stretch of calmer weather so we can get back out there. Winter fishing in Southeast Alaska is always about timing, patience, and making the most of the good days when they come.
Hoping to get back on the water soon.
Tight lines,
Captain Cable
