🦅## Amazing Bald Eagles in Ketchikan: A Dockside Experience
🦅
One of the things I’ve come to appreciate over the years of running charters in Southeast Alaska is how close we live to the wild. Out here, it’s not uncommon to share the day with whales, seals, sea lions—and the majestic Bald Eagles in Ketchikan.
While we were cleaning fish at the dock after a great day on the water, a hungry eagle circled overhead, eyeing the scraps. These birds are an iconic part of life here. With wingspans stretching up to 7 feet, sharp talons, and keen eyesight, they’re built to hunt—but they’ll never turn down an easy snack from the sea.
Why Alaska is Eagle Country
These birds are incredibly resilient. Once endangered, they’ve made a massive comeback—especially here in the “Salmon Capital of the World.” In fact, more than half of the entire U.S. bald eagle population lives right here in Alaska. It is completely legal to watch these birds feed near the docks, as they have long been removed from the endangered species list and thrive in our local environment.
Wildlife Encounters on the 4C’s
It’s easy to take things like this for granted when you live here, but to our guests, it’s often one of the most unforgettable parts of their trip. Seeing a bald eagle swoop in with no hesitation is a reminder that Alaska isn’t just a place—it’s an experience.
When you book one of our Ketchikan Alaska Fishing Charter Rates packages, you aren’t just getting a fishing trip; you’re getting a front-row seat to the best wildlife Southeast Alaska has to offer.
We hope you enjoyed this look at the Bald Eagles in Ketchikan—be sure to have your camera ready when you step off the cruise ship at Berth 3!
