2026 Ketchikan Fishing Report spring 2026 Update: Shrimp Closures & Upcoming King Salmon Outlook
As we gear up for another incredible season on the 4 C’s, there are a few important regulatory updates from ADF&G that all our local friends and visiting anglers need to know.
New Spring Shrimp Closure (March 1 – April 30)
For the first time this year, the Alaska Board of Fisheries has implemented a regional closure for sport, personal use, and subsistence shrimp fishing.
Dates: March 1 through April 30, 2026.
The Reason: This closure protects our local shrimp during their sensitive egg-hatching period. While it means a short break for the pots this spring, it’s a smart move for the long-term health of the fishery. We’ll be ready to get back after them starting May 1st!
Looking Ahead: Hatchery King Salmon (June 1 Target)
Now for the news everyone is waiting for—King Salmon!
While we are currently following the standard regional conservation limits to protect wild stocks, we are anticipating exciting news regarding our Hatchery King Salmon opportunities.
The Forecast: We are looking forward to potential increased limits in specific Ketchikan Hatchery areas.
Timeline: Keep a close eye on this page! We expect ADF&G to release the official Emergency Orders for these terminal areas soon, with opportunities hopefully opening as early as June 1st.
These hatchery returns are a highlight of the early summer, and there’s nothing like the fight of a fresh King in the Ketchikan salt.
Spring Fever: Getting the 4 C’s Ready for You
There is a real sense of excitement in the air as we prepare for the Ketchikan fishing report spring 2026 season. Right now, I’m busy in the garage and on the boat making sure every detail is perfect for our first guests. From spooling fresh line on the Shimano reels to ensuring the Scotty downriggers are humming, we don’t take any shortcuts.
If you are joining us for one of our early June Hatchery King trips, here is a quick “Captain’s Checklist” of what to bring to stay comfortable:
Layer Up: Alaska weather is unpredictable. Bring a moisture-wicking base layer and a good fleece.
Stay Dry: A high-quality rain jacket is your best friend in the “Salmon Capital of the World.”
Footwear: XTRATUFs are the local classic, but any waterproof boot with a good grip will keep you steady on the deck.
Polarized Sunglasses: Not only do they protect your eyes, but they’ll help you spot those Eagles and Whales we see while cruising the Inside Passage.
We are thrilled to get back on the water and share the beauty of Ketchikan with you. Whether we are navigating the new shrimp closures or hunting for that trophy King, it’s going to be a fantastic 2026 season!
