The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced the 2026 sport fishing regulations for king salmon in marine waters of Southeast Alaska and Yakutat. These regulations are effective April 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027.
Official 2026 Ketchikan King Salmon Regulations Breakdown
The 2026 season is officially here. Whether you are a local resident or visiting us on a charter, staying on top of the Department of Fish and Game’s boundaries is key to a successful trip. Here is the simple breakdown of the 2026 rules for the Ketchikan area (Districts 1 & 2).
The “Need-to-Know” Dates:
April 1 – June 14: Catch-and-Release only in most Ketchikan waters.
June 15 – August 14: Retention is OPEN in the general Ketchikan area.
Hatchery Update: We are awaiting the formal announcement for “Terminal Harvest Areas” (like Mountain Point). These typically open June 1st for retention. We will update this post the second that news drops!
Alaska Resident King Salmon Regulations 2026
Bag & Possession Limit: 2 King Salmon, 28 inches or greater in length.
Special Ketchikan Rule: From June 15 – August 14, the resident bag limit in District 1 is reduced to 1 King Salmon (28″+) to protect wild stocks.
Two-Rod Rule: Resident sport fishers may use two rods from October 1 to March 31. Under the 2026 Ketchikan King Salmon Regulations, resident anglers enjoy a two-rod rule during the winter months.
Nonresident King Salmon Regulations 2026
Bag & Possession Limit: 1 King Salmon, 28 inches or greater in length.
Annual Harvest Limit (April 1 – June 30): 3 King Salmon total.
Annual Harvest Limit (July 1 – Dec 31): 1 King Salmon total.
Note: Any kings harvested earlier in the year count toward this one-fish limit.
Mandatory Recording: You must record your harvest immediately on the back of your license.

North Behm Canal: Closed year-round
West & SE Behm Canal: Retention prohibited April 1 – August 14.
