Ketchikan Fishing Report June 2024
June 15th was a beautiful day on the water and a perfect start to our Ketchikan fishing report June series! This date marked the official reopening of the King Salmon (Chinook) season near Ketchikan, Alaska, and it was an eagerly anticipated morning for everyone on the 4 C’s.
The pristine waters of the Tongass Narrows came alive with excitement as locals and visitors alike headed out to target the prized King Salmon. This season opener was about more than just the thrill of the catch; it was about the breathtaking natural beauty of the Alaskan wilderness, featuring a vibrant sunrise and incredibly tranquil waters.
Opening Day Highlights:
The Catch: We were thrilled to see a full limit of King Salmon come over the rail for a very happy family.
Conditions: Boats were cutting through a perfectly calm sea early in the morning, making for ideal trolling conditions.
The Atmosphere: Spirits were high across the fleet. The first catch of the season is always a moment of triumph, signaling the beginning of many more memorable fishing adventures to come.
Trolling with herring remains the preferred method for these early-season Kings, and the fish we saw on opening day were in spectacular condition—hard-fighting and bright silver. If this opener is any indication, the rest of June is going to be one for the record books!
