Ketchikan Fishing Report 2024 Summer Recap

The Ketchikan fishing report 2024 summer season was filled with incredible action across all five species of salmon. From the high-stakes King salmon opening in June to the massive Coho and Pink runs in August, anglers visiting the Salmon Capital of the World had plenty of opportunities to fill their coolers and create lasting memories on the water.

King Salmon (Chinook) The 2024 season for King salmon was carefully managed to ensure future returns. Retention was prohibited early in the spring, but the fishery officially opened on June 15. We saw consistent action for both residents and nonresidents, with the nonresident annual limit starting at three fish in June and stepping down as the summer progressed.

Coho Salmon (Silver) Coho fishing was a major highlight of the Ketchikan fishing report 2024 season. By August and September, the “Silver Blitz” was in full swing. Productive grounds included Duke Island and Cape Chacon, while nearshore hotspots like Clover Pass and the backside of Gravina Island produced limits for many of our guests.

Pink and Chum Salmon The Pink and Chum runs were exceptionally strong in 2024. These hard-fighting fish provided non-stop action in August, especially for families and those fishing the freshwater systems like Herring Cove and Ketchikan Creek.

2024 Conservation Measures Mindful management remained a priority throughout the summer. To protect wild stocks, King salmon retention was closed from late August through September. Additionally, year-round closures in areas like Behm Canal helped safeguard local spawning populations for years to come.

Overall, 2024 was a banner year for Ketchikan salmon fishing, proving once again why this is the premier destination for anglers worldwide.
