Winter King Salmon Fishing Report – Ketchikan, Alaska
Winter doesn’t shut us down here — it just makes us earn every fish a little harder. Our recent Ketchikan Alaska salmon fishing trips have been all about watching the marine forecast and taking advantage of every weather window we can find.
January and February brought snow, fog, icy decks, and temperatures cold enough to freeze hatches and stiffen hoses solid. When the weather broke, though, we were able to push offshore and target winter king salmon. Winter fishing around Ketchikan is quiet and incredibly scenic this time of year — but it makes you pay for every minute on the water.
Even with frozen fingers and decks icing up as soon as a fish hits, the Ketchikan Alaska salmon fishing has produced some quality winter kings. Bright fish, strong runs, and fresh fillets in the middle of winter — that’s a treat most people don’t expect.
If you’re planning ahead for summer, our peak season focuses heavily on salmon opportunities along with halibut and a variety of bottom fish species. You can explore our salmon charter options to see what a typical trip includes.
