Ketchikan Fishing Report – August 2025
July fishing in Ketchikan, Alaska, was nothing short of fantastic, and here we are in August with plenty of action still on the water. The salmon bite has stayed strong, with salmon providing plenty of steady hookups and pinks keeping rods bending for anglers of all ages.
The big news this month is that king salmon retention has reopened, giving anglers another shot at these prized fish. While kings are never guaranteed, the chance to bring one home again has everyone on deck just a little more excited when a rod goes off.
In addition to salmon, the bottom fishing has been solid, with many boats picking up nice fish both while targeting bottom species and even as a surprise while trolling for salmon. Ketchikan’s waters are alive right now, and whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Alaska fisherman, the opportunities are wide open.
If you’re heading our way, bring your camera and your appetite—there’s nothing like fresh Alaska fish on the grill after a day on the 4C’s.
